Supported by BAYER East Africa LTD – Life Science Project, ADS North Rift and the County Government of West Pokot facilitated the Women Group with shade net and 2,000 tissue culture banana plantlets.
The banana plantlets will be hardened by the group in the shed net for 3 weeks before being transplanted in their farms and the remainder supplied to farmers around Chepareria area.
Mr. Meshack Kimondo from Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) provided lessons to the group members of Tukumwok Women Group on nursery management, planting and weed management.
The clean disease-free plantlet is expected to yield between 80-100kgs in less than 13 months and can bear fruits three times a year.
ADS North Rift is bringing such technologies to the village by training farmers, providing high-quality planting materials and equipment.
Our aim is to improve livelihoods and food security.
