Anglican Development Services – North Rift (ADS NR) is the Development arm of the Anglican Dioceses of Eldoret, Kitale, Kapsabet and Missionary Area of Lodwar.
The ADS NR region covers the six counties of the North Rift namely: Nandi, Uasin Gishu, Elgeiyo Marakwet, Trans-Nzoia, West Pokot, and Turkana. Which is a total of 177,394 Square Kilometers and has an estimated population of 4.3 million according to the National Census of 2009.
Our main offices are located in the North West of Kenya at Eldoret Town.
ADS NR bases its development work on Luke 4:18-19. And the emphasis is on participatory approaches that aim to ensure that activities are in line with the priorities of the target communities and that these activities are truly owned by the people.
We currently support community efforts in the following sectors
- Capacity building, food security, economic empowerment and livelihoods
- Agriculture and value chain development
- Health and HIV/AIDS
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Governance, peace-building and conflict transformation.
For purposes of efficient administration, projects are decentralized to six zones covering each of the six counties. Central Coordination is carried out by a management team, led by the Executive Director, who is assisted by the Head of Programmes and the Head of Finance. A programme Coordination Unit is responsible for providing specialized support to the Zonal teams.
Oversight of ADS North Rift is provided by a Board of Directors that is elected by the Synods of Eldoret, Kitale and Kapsabet Dioceses. The Board has a number of Committees that include the Programmes Committee and the Finance and General Purpose Committee. The Board also appoints independent auditors to conduct financial audits each year in order to ensure financial probity.
The work of ADS North Rift is made possible through support from various development partners who over the years have included Bread for the World (BftW), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Church World Service (CWS), Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme (ASDSP), Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF), Njaa Marufuku Kenya (NMK), Danish Church Aid (DCA), Aphia Plus, AMPATH and BAYER among others.
